5 Yoga Positions That Can Be Harmful For You And Your Baby

by Phoebe Warts Sonographers
During pregnancy to-be-mothers experience a lot of changes – hormonal as well as physical, starting from belly growth to mood swings- there is no stop button. You feel stressed, overjoyed, scared, everything at the same time, and for you, it can become hard to point out anyone emotion. This is when yoga practices help you. It helps to release stress, relaxes the body muscles and increases the strength of the body. At the same time, you have to keep a periodic check on your unborn baby’s growth and well being through an ultrasound baby scan provided by many ultrasound baby scan clinics.

In this article, I have shortlisted some of the yoga postures to avoid when you are expecting a baby as they can harm you and your baby during the pregnancy period.

BELLY-DOWN POSE

Belly-down pose

As soon as you get to know that you are expecting a baby through ultrasound baby scanning, start avoiding the postures that involve lying down and putting direct pressure on your belly. Though, you just got to know that you are pregnant and your baby is still tiny as a lentil, it is better not to put any extra and unnecessary pressure on your baby. During your first trimester, yes, you can still practice cobra or sphinx pose, but once you enter the second-trimester, skip it until you have given birth and recovered from it completely.

LYING BACK POSES

LYING BACK POSES

Once you have entered into the pregnancy ride, and completed the first 16-20 weeks, lying back poses won't be even an option for you. As your baby and your bump are growing, laying back can put a lot of pressure on the baby causing damages.

TWISTING POSES

Twisting Pose

Twisting poses compress the abdomen, therefore, it is better to avoid the posture during pregnancy. Any twisting posture can decrease the blood flow to the abdominal area.

INVERSION POSES

Inversion Pose

Pregnancy is a very sensitive period, therefore going upside down is a big NO-NO. Even if you have practiced and have become an expert in inversion postures, it is better to avoid because when you are expecting your body gains extra weight. As the tummy grows bigger, it becomes impossible to do the pose and also increase the risk of harming the baby. Doing this pose may cause dizziness, and due to this, you may lose your balance too.

JUMPING POSES

At the initial stage of your pregnancy, a lot of changes occur inside your body. Too much jumping and jerking may cause nausea. Therefore, it is best to avoid these poses and try out more ground poses which is beneficial for you and your baby.

HEATED YOGA POSES

Heated Yoga

Doing core and intense poses can increase the body temperature and the blood flow which may harm you and your unborn baby. Therefore, avoid the postures which are meant to increase the body temperature so that it won’t leave you dehydrated.

Ensure that you don't repeat the above-mentioned poses and try to avoid them until you deliver the baby and recover completely. You and your baby’s well being should be the topmost priority and getting a baby scan from a good ultrasound baby scan clinic is a great help too.
