Irregular washing

Laziness in washing bathroom towels can prove very dangerous. They can easily become a breeding place for germs, stink and other contaminations because of high percentage of moisture in them. Ideally, you should be washing them after three-four times of use.

Incorrect washing methods

You probably will be regularly washing them but doing it incorrectly is again of no use.

• Not using a proper temperature of hot water – Not using hot water can turn out to be a very serious issue as germs and smell can be removed by washing bathroom towels in just right and safe temperature of water.
• Usage of excessive softener – Using it in right quantity is order of day to maintain softness of material.
• Excessive detergents – It is very easy to just use lots of detergent to make something really clean, but using a lot of detergent will ultimately ruin absorbency and softness of any towel making them rough and stiff. Also if not rinsed properly it can give rise to bacteria and fabric molds.
• Washing with other clothes – Washing other clothes and fabrics together with towels causes short fabric to rub together with long and thick fabric of bathroom towels causing a bunch.
• Machine Drying – It is always better to let towels dry on their own by hanging them outside in fresh air instead of exposing it to heat of machine dryer. It also helps in keeping towels smelling fresh.

Not rotating towels

Even after regularly washing your towels using same one without rotation for a continuous period can be a big deterrent for life span of towels. Probably maintaining three to four sets of towel for each person can help in a longer run.

Improper storage

We generally use towel bar to store dry towels for next use; though using a hook is also not a bad idea. Bad idea is when you hang more than one towel for each hook. Moisture, germs and stink are part of a towel which makes two bathroom towels hung together a breeding haven for bacteria and molds.

Keeping loose ends

With continuous usage a towel fabric can also start to fall apart or look tattered as it starts to catch on things and eventually loose threads appear. It is better to cut off these loose threads as soon as you see them.
