Spaniards have surpassed Japan when it comes to average lifespan according to The Institute of Health And Metrics Evaluation in Seattle. 

While Japanese will enjoy an average lifespan of 85.7 years by 2040, Spaniards made the lead with an average lifespan of 85.8 years. 

It is undeniable that people are becoming so busy that they can’t make time to prepare a proper meal. But this is not the case in Spain. 

Processed food is available but it is very expensive. So instead, they cook their own meals. They are abundant with vegetables, meat and of course plenty of olive oil. Olive oil is a staple in a typical Spanish kitchen and for that reason; Spain has become the largest private label olive oil supplier in the world.

I think almost everyone loves eating, but just like any Mediterranean country, Spanish people bond with their family and friends over meals. They eat with pleasure. They do not hurry. They do not eat alone in front of the TV. Instead, they treat eating time as a time to socialize with others. They take time to talk and enjoy the food. 

The transportation system in Spain is good, and for that reason, they are not dependent on cars. Typically, they either commute or they walk. They walk to work or grocery shopping and they do get around the neighbourhood as well. They enjoy being outdoors which also makes them look more active and fitter. 

And since they have a healthy diet, they have no problem walking in miles. 

Aside from nutritious food, the climate around Spain is also great for walking! Moreover, the climate is perfect for agriculture, which means they are very much capable of cultivating their own fruits and vegetables. 

Spaniards do smoke and drink. In fact, Spain is a large Spanish wine exporter. Yet they still rank high in longevity. This is because they live better – an idea that most countries do not have. And if you live better, you will also end up living longer. 

Again, lifestyle is the most important factor for us to live longer.
