4 Essential Decorating Ideas for Guest Bathrooms

by Amanda Stall Home remodeling and family blogger

Anyone who has guests in their home at some point realizes that the guest bathroom is a pretty important room.  You want your guests to feel as comfortable and as welcome as possible, and their experience in the guest bathroom goes a long way toward defining that experience.  This is a room that is often overlooked when it comes to decorating, but you should avoid making that mistake. Below are some ideas to consider.

Keep It Clear

Guest bathroom decorating should generally be geared towards creating as much space as possible.  These rooms are often relatively small, so you’ll want to avoid any clutter.  Don’t put any type of piece in the room that people will have to maneuver around, as that is not a positive experience.  If your guests plan to use the bathroom for more than an evening – such as overnight guests – make sure you create as much room in the cabinets and drawers as well.  This adds an enormous amount of comfort to the space.

Get Creative with Extras

One of the best ways to make overnight guests feel welcome is to have some ‘extras’ available to them in case they forget something.  These extras can include soap, shampoo, shaving cream, and other bathroom necessities as you see fit.  You can incorporate these items into a creative design as well, as you can display them artfully or in spaces that add to the overall atmosphere.  Most of all, your guests will feel welcome and they will certainly appreciate your thoughtfulness whether they forget something or not.

Lighting Is Key

Another way that guest bathroom decorating can provide visitors with that special feeling of comfort is by making sure that the lighting is done properly.  If there are windows in the room, make sure you put that free lighting to use.  However, make sure to give your guests the option of privacy.  Include shades/blinds/some sort of ability for people in the room to shield themselves from view.  In addition, you should have lighting in place that provides enough light for people to see what they’re doing, but not so much that they feel interrogated.  It’s a delicate balance, but one that can be achieved.

Work With a Professional Designer

Finally, if you’re still searching for ideas and want to stay within the budget, you can always work with a team or professional designers. They can work with you to create an amazing guest bathroom that meets all the needs above and more.
