4 Beauty Tips to Help you Feel & Look Your Best

Building a great beauty regimen doesn't have to cost a lot or require you to wear a lot of cosmetics. Often, the simplest things we do for ourselves provide the greatest rewards. If you've got it in your budget, consider more permanent beauty fixes, such as treatment for hair loss or a proper pedicure.

Hydrate

Properly hydrated skin will glow. Your lips will feel soft, your eyes will be bright and any wrinkling or sagging brought on by time and sun will appear firmer. Your skin actually has a natural moisture barrier or lipid layer that holds in moisture. When you're under stress, dehydrated, or just tired, this lipid layer breaks down. You can replenish your moisture barrier in just 3 days. Even better, a lot of the supplies you need can be bought at your local supermarket. Finally, part of your task is to get at least 9 hours of sleep a night. Treat yourself to a homemade cucumber and aloe hydrating mask, drink lots of water, and boost your Vitamin C intake. Take a long weekend and enjoy glowing skin.

Be Kind to Your Hair

Stress and lack of access to your hairdresser may have left you with tired tresses. If you've noticed any hair thinning, a hair loss treatment may be in order. Be aware that growing out your color can leave your hair feeling flattened; it may just be limp, rather than thinning. If your hair is just limp or looking fried, consider an egg and avocado mask. Whip 2 eggs and mix in one ripe avocado. Work this into your hair from scalp to ends and let it sit for no more than 45 minutes, then wash it away with a mild shampoo and cool water.

Exfoliate

Exfoliating your skin can leave it feeling fresh and tingly. Even better, many exfoliants contain scents that are soothing to your mind and spirit. Finally, exfoliating carrier oils will hydrate your skin, so need for lotion. Simply put on a toweling robe and let your skin absorb the oil. Scrubs can be purchased in most department stores, or you can make your own with 1/2 a cup of brown sugar and 1/2 a cup of coconut or jojoba oil. Essential oils in your favorite scent will complete the mixture. If your skin is dry, only exfoliate once a week. Let the oil hydrate your skin, or apply a calming cream to any skin that's prone to dryness.

Your Feet

Feet take a beating. If you struggle with dry feet, calluses, or other challenges, start with a warm water footbath. Add a bit of your favorite body wash and a few drops of tea tree oil to disinfect. Once your feet have soaked for 10 minutes, scrub with a soft brush to remove any embedded dirt. Take care to get between your toes and into the undersides of them to remove dead, tired skin. Work across calluses with a pumice stone or a rasp. Rinse your feet thoroughly and work a moisturizer, preferably mint or eucalyptus scented, into the skin, especially the soles. Slip-on a pair of clean cotton socks to allow your feet to drink in that moisture. When you're done working on your feet, put them up and watch a movie or read a favorite book. Relaxation is great for your skin and your mood!

Travel restrictions and budget concerns may keep us from going to a spa, but there are many ways you can care for yourself at home. Spend just a few minutes a week in self-care. Do your best to get 8 hours of sleep a night. Drink lots of water and use plenty of lotion to protect your skin from looking tired out. Be good to yourself.
