4 Basic Rules about Applying Fungicide on Your Crops
by Aakash Sharma Amazing Benefits of Using PesticidesFungi attacks slowly damage the plants. The worst part is that the infection is contagious and rapidly spreads from one plant to the next. This is why farmers buy azoxystrobin and other fungicides to prevent and control fungi attacks. However, fungicides can be harmful if not used carefully. It’s recommended to always use a fungicide as prescribed on the label.
Here are 4 basic rules of applying a fungicide that you should follow to prevent and control the disease and save your crops from any harm due to excessive use:
Apply before the Development of Infection
A common saying in the medical field is that “prevention is better than the cure.” This holds true in the case of crops as well. It’s better to prevent an infection than to control it. Applying a fungicide in advance means that that there will be no development of infection. However, if you don’t apply it, one day you will notice a lesion on one of the leaves. However, it being the first lesion you notice does not mean that it’s the first lesion on all your crops. You will have to find the root of the infection and take the necessary steps. By the time this process is completed, some of your crops (or parts of them) will have been damaged and you will have to get rid of them.
Apply More Frequently During Rain
Every disease has conducive weather in which it spreads the most. Some fungi infections affect the plants during the summer and some during the monsoon. However, the likelihood of a fungi infection is more when the leaves are wet. It is recommended by professionals to apply the fungicide slightly more frequently during monsoon than in summer. The general range of a fungicide application is 7-14 days. You can reduce this time to 5-8 days during the monsoon to further decrease the likelihood of a fungi infection.
Alternate Fungicides
There are two types of fungicides: systemic and contact fungicides. Systemic fungicides translocate them in a plant’s system while the contact fungicides stay on the surface. The former is used for prevention and the latter for control. Most farmers use systemic fungicides to prevent any form of infection. When using a systemic fungicide, it is recommended to alternate them every season. When you use the same fungicide season after season, the fungi mutate and develop resistance. Alternating fungicide each season does not allow the fungi to develop any sort of resistance and they continue to be efficient.
Always Read the Labels before Buying
No single fungicide is effective on every plant. What fungicide you should buy depends on the plant you want to use it on because each plant is susceptible to different fungi infections. This is why it’s recommended to always read the label before buying a fungicide. A label has all the details you need to know about using that fungicide. Buy it only when it is precisely what you are looking for.
Whether you should buy azoxystrobin or any other fungicide, that’s up to you. However, when you buy, remember to follow the aforementioned basic rules of using a fungicide on your crops.
