3 Ways Girls Can Join Indian Navy

The Indian Navy started inducting women from July 1992, although only under the Short Service Commission (SSC). Nonetheless, the news had a warm reception from girls across the nation willing to join the Navy to serve their motherland. As of now, i.e. in 2019, Navy takes in women willing to join any one of the various branches:
  1. Naval Architecture
  2. ATC (Air Traffic Control)
  3. Law
  4. Education
  5. Observer
  6. Logistics
  7. Pilot (For Maritime Reconnaissance Stream only)
  8. Naval Armament Inspectorate

So let us have a look at ways how women can plan to stand out from the competition, to finally excel when they are out to Join Indian Navy Recruitment 2019.

1. After Engineering
A B.E/B.Tech. is your best shot if you want to join Indian Navy as an officer. The reason is that many of the above-mentioned branches have an opening for candidates who have pursued a technical B.E/B.Tech. as part of their graduate program.

The branches falling under the category that only takes in such graduates are as follows:

A.Naval Architecture
Age Limit: 19 ½ to 25
Qualification: The applicant must have a degree from any of the recognized university, with 60% minimum marks, in any of the below-mentioned engineering disciplines:
  • Mechanical
  • Civil
  • Aeronautical
  • Metallurgy
  • Naval Architecture

B. Naval Observer
Age Limit:19-24
Qualification: The applicant must have a B.E/B.Tech. degree in of the engineering discipline, along with Physics and Maths at +2 level

C. Education
There are multiple ways of joining the Indian Navy in its Education branch. One among them is by having a degree in any of the below-mentioned engineering disciplines:
  • Mechanical 
  • Electrical
  • Computer Science/Technology

D. Logistics/Work
Age Limit: 19 ½ to 25
Educational Qualification: Aspirants having a B.E/B.tech degree in any of the engineering disciplines could apply for the logistics branch. But to apply for the works branch, the aspirant should hold either a B.E/B Tech in civil engineering or a B.Arch.


E. Air Traffic Control (ATC)
Age Limit:19 ½ -25
Applicant should have an engineering degree in any of the engineering disciplines, along with physics and maths at +2 level.

F. NAI
Age Limit:19 ½ to 25
An engineering degree in any of the below-mentioned engineering stream is needed before applying for this branch:

  • Electrical
  • Electronics
  • Mechanical
  • Production
  • Instrumentation
  • IT
  • Chemical
  • Metallurgy
  • Aerospace Engineering

G. Pilot
Women, as a pilot, are only taken in by the Indian Navy for the purpose of maritime reconnaissance. To apply for becoming one, the applicant should have an engineering degree in any engineering stream, along with Physics and Maths at +2 level.

2. After Law
Law graduates have an ocean of opportunities when it comes to making a career as an Indian Navy officer. 
Age Limit:22 to 27
Qualification: Applicant should have a degree in law from a recognized university, qualifying them as an advocate.
 
3. After Graduation (others)
If your graduation doesn't fall into any of the above-mentioned categories, then fear not. Because you still have equal chances for applying and getting selected as a Navy officer. Following branches of Navy hire candidates who have pursued a non-professional degree (like M.Sc, M.A, etc.)

A.Education
The education branch of Navy gives equal opportunities to candidates who have pursued a non-professional degree or masters in selected disciplines. Following qualification criteria should be met you wish to apply for education branch:

Age Limit: 21 to 25

Masters in Physics: At least a second class degree is required from a recognized university. Also, the applicant should have studied Mathematics as a subsidiary subject during the degree course

Masters in Mathematics: At least a second class degree is required from a recognized university. Also, the applicant should have studied Physics as a subsidiary subject during the degree course

Masters in Chemistry: At least a second class degree is required from a recognized university. Also, the applicant should have studied Physics as a subsidiary subject during the degree course

Masters in English: At least a second class degree is required from a recognized university. Also, the applicant should have studied Physics or Mathematics up to the +2 Level.

Applicants having a postgraduate degree from a recognized university in either of the following disciplines could also apply:

  • Economics
  • History
  • Political Science
