3 London Cultural Events Not To Miss In Early 2019

by Liz Seyi Digital marketing manager

You might imagine that once you snap up a House For Sale In Croydon – such as one of those contained within the prestigious ISLAND development – and begin to get settled into your new surroundings, it won’t take you long to discover nearby cultural treasures, sights and sounds. You’re in London, after all.

This might be true, but it’s also easy to overlook many of the most special London arts events.

We therefore thought we’d highlight just three of those set to take place in the first half of 2019, and which will help to give you an appreciation of the sheer depth of the British capital’s cultural offer.

Pierre Bonnard: The Colour of Memory, Tate Modern

It’s been two decades since the Tate last held a much-loved exhibition of Pierre Bonnard’s work, and this exhibition in Tate Modern’s Eyal Ofer Galleries on Bankside will give a new generation of art lovers the opportunity to get up close and personal with the painter and printmaker’s unconventional use of colour.

It takes place from 23rd January to 6th May, and is priced at a standard £18 per ticket – or free for Tate members.

Brixton Disco Festival, Windrush Square

This one-day festival on Saturday 27th April, held across a number of venues surrounding Brixton’s iconic Windrush Square, will bring back the glory days of disco, with live music, talks, screenings, a roller disco and so much more.

Already confirmed for this year’s line-up is Evelyn “Champagne” King, who will be present to perform her classic hits including “Shame” and “Love Come Down”. Two huge headliners will also be announced early this year, so we suggest that you keep your eyes peeled for news.

Richard II, Shakespeare’s Globe

Comprising a cast of women of colour, this take on Shakespeare’s Richard II comes at an intriguing time for the destiny of our nation, in the light of the Windrush anniversary and as the UK looks set to depart the European Union.

This production tells the story of a king of a troubled nation, who is forced to relinquish his ‘hollow crown’ and in the process, reflect on the disintegration of his status and identity. It’s an intriguing version of the play that forces us to consider what it truly means to be British. It runs from 22nd February to 21st April, with tickets priced from £10.

One of our ISLAND apartments or penthouses could just be your new home – so why not register your interest with us today? We have many a house for sale in Croydon to enable people like you to enjoy a London skyline lifestyle for less outlay than you might expect.
