3 Key Pointers for Driving Safely at Night
Remember in driver’s education when the instructors always said, “There’s no bad cars, just bad drivers”? This statement holds true, especially for late night drivers. Auto accidents in Utah are all too common in the evening hours. For those who operate vehicles at dark hours of the day, here are a few key pointers for keeping yourself – and others – safe on the roads.
Stay Focused and Sober
It is obvious, but too often people forget this. Not only should drivers watch out for other potentially hazardous vehicle operators, but they also need to keep an eye on themselves. Even one alcoholic beverage can promote sleepiness. You can be your own worst enemy if you choose to drink and drive.
In addition, drivers should avoid operating a car when they feel tired. Drowsy driving is just as dangerous as drunk driving. Having some caffeine or a driving with a passenger on onboard are both proven Hundreds of Utah auto accidents can be prevented if drivers would remain alert.
Turn the Lights On
Here is another obvious, but commonly forgotten tip. Think of it this way, turning your lights on helps you to see and be seen by others on the roads. Make sure both headlights work properly for better orientation and visibility. If they’re foggy or dull, they won’t shine as brightly and essentially become useless.
Check the brake lights, too. If they don’t work, drivers behind you won’t be able to react in time if you need to make an emergency stop. Lots of auto accidents are caused by delayed reactions.
Shift Your Focus to the Right Side
Bright lights are good for seeing the roads, but when someone stares at them for long periods of time they can seriously disrupt concentration. Try not to look at oncoming headlights. Instead, focus your eyes on the right side of the road.
Driving at night is said to be easier because there is less traffic, but it requires impeccable attention and alertness. Utah drivers can prevent late night auto accidents by taking safety precautions. Avoiding alcohol before driving, turning on headlights and focusing away from oncoming traffic are only a few suggestions.
