3 Fundamental Fade Haircut Styles You Need to Know

by Kevin Smith Author

The fade haircut is one of the most popular men's hairstyles these days. It looks great, it's easy to maintain, and it can complement any hair length or texture.

A fade cut gives short hair an even shorter look. This style has three main kinds: low, mid, and high fade. The names refer to how high the cut goes up on the head. There's a variety of techniques on how to execute these haircuts, and they're usually taught in top barber schools in Hollywood, FL, and other areas. Keep reading to learn more about the three types of fade haircuts and their differences.

Low Fade

A low fade is a taper within one inch above the ear. In this type of cut, the hair typically goes down behind the ear. A low fade raises the hairline to achieve a very clean finish that'll definitely look great when the hair grows out. This type of haircut works particularly well with people who have thick hair.

Mid Fade

With a mid fade, the taper starts an inch higher above the ear and just below the temples. The shave lands right in the middle of the head hence the name.

Like other fade haircuts, the mid fade comes in a variety of styles and looks. To give you an idea, people can get a mid fade cut and combine it with a short cut on the top of the head. Others prefer a disconnected look by having short sides while maintaining a long top.

High Fade

The high fade normally starts at the temple or the corner of the forehead. Unlike the first two styles, the high fade cut follows a straight path from the hairline and goes around the head. This style is very similar to the one-length undercut because of how high it is. What sets it apart is how the hair gets shorter as it moves down the head.

Among the three fade haircuts mentioned above, neither one is better than the other. It all depends on the personal preference of the client. If you want to learn about the proper ways to achieve these haircuts, enrolling in a barber education program can help you significantly. There are many top barber schools in Hollywood, FL that you can choose from.
