A little commercial nostalgia
Okay the inspiration bug is contagious tonight. I got caught up in another member's blog,
What would Colonel Sanders Do? and it sparked off a trip down memory lane to some of the old advertising icons from my childhood. And no not the Dino-rib Diner frequented by the Flintstone family! I was reminded on places that you just needed to see the building on the side of the road, you didn't need a sign because you knew just from the building.
Howard Johnson's
There was no mistaking Howard Johnsons or HoJo as we used to affectionately call it. Whether you were on the road traveling and needed a room at one of their motels or were looking for a nice meal in the restaurant, you always knew Howard johnsons from thet bright orange roof!
Kentucky Fried Chicken

Ii you wanted original recipe fried chicken all you had to do was look for the red and white striped roof.
Stuckey's

Before the interstates took over most people would travel what was then called Highways, like the old Route 66. These highways still exist but the traveler now opts to do 80mph on the interstate instead of make a leisurely drive along back roads. Stuckey's has pretty much gone out of business. Stuckey's was like the grandaddy of the modern truck stop; they always had rooms for weary travelers, a restaurant, gas and great snacks that only they carried.

I used to love stopping at Stuckeys because it meant Pecan logs! And I had dinner more than once at HoJo's too!

I'll have to do one with gas station 'mascots' next time.

Thanks for sending me the link to this article, Cheryl, awesome article, the pictures make it invaluable, even if only KFC was in Quebec. :)
