Taking care of the garden:

Taking care of the garden is a chore, it is more than planting and harvesting your bountiful harvest. Getting the garden soil ready for planting and determine the garden layout. Planning what will be planted in the zone you are planting in may give some indication the choices you should make. Some other preparations, making sure the soil is tilled the pH is right and ample fertilizer. A clean garden may help lessen the chance of weeds and ground pest such as nematodes etc. Some sources think that tilling the soil sometime before planting may expose ground pest eggs and what ever may be lurking beneath the soil to invade your plants such as potatoes, squash etc. Some sub-jest organic methods some use mild pesticides. With the organic method of picking off as many insects as possible, the use of friendly insects and of courses the birds to catch and destroy as many insects as they can catch. A few birds stop by to catch a few bugs or worms. The scrub Blue Jay, don?t stay in place long, they soon fly away at the first motion. The cardinal is sort of elusive when they visit the garden. The sparrow is hard to see as it hops in the midst of the mustards hopefully to catch a few flea beetles.

To protect the birds that visit the garden I use less chemicals and beginning to implement other methods such as comparison planting like putting the mint next to the cabbage as it was subjected in an article. Mint will take over the garden; putting it in containers may reduce the spread over the garden.

Container gardening is a good way for those with small yards, porches, balconies or even planters for windowsills to plant some vegetables or herbs. Just about everyone can get into growing his or her own vegetables. Seeds are economical if you have the time and space to start seedling. Thyme, basil, and oregano are some of the favorite herbs in the garden. There are different varieties of each, so choose the one that best fit you needs. Another concept is bag gardening for potatoes, this is a way to have fresh potatoes just a step to the porch.

Watering is a vital part of the gardening, however too much water or too little water may cause your plant to die. There are ways to take the guess workout by using a gage or put a pan under the plant container, keeping it filled with water. My rule of thumb is, if the water stay in the pan the plant probably have enough water. You may find more detail information on the Internet, searching for gardening may find many sites. The company or seed package may give some subjections about the watering cycle.

Growing your own vegetable is a great thing to do. Aside from harvesting fresh vegetables for the kitchen table, you also enjoy the doing it a hobby, and at the same it is more economical. Household expense is reduced to even more than 50% compared to regularly buying it from the supermarket. You could even sell excess products to neighbors or exchange with other crops with others who does farming, or gardening.
