Lost in a fog
I am a person that gets lost very easily when driving. Whenever I drive someplace new to me I get lost. I actually have a lot of sympathy for Chevy Chase in the National Lampoon European Vacation movie. That part when he gets stuck on that traffic roundabout. Yep been there done that back in my younger days in Washington DC. I think I must have driven around that circle in L'Enfant Plaza a dozen times or more before I finally managed to get off it. (I will be arrogant here and say one of the writers saw me that day and I was the inspiration for that scene!)
The thing is that this usually happens when I am new to a place and my cure is simple. I let myself get lost. By the time I've 'found' myself again I've usually learned landmarks to use as reference points for the next time. Which brings me to this morning.
My sister went out of town on a trip and decided to take the big dog instead of drive. Yeah she decided to 'Go Greyhound'. Which meant a trip to downtown San Antonio. I have been living here for almost 4 years now so i know my landmarks. No getting lost now right?
Wrong! Landmark only help if you can see them! Since my personal navigation system is based on landmarks if I can't see them I'm pretty much lost. Thanks to heavy fog that would make London and pea soup green with envy, I could not find my landmarks. It took some doing passing several turns I should have taken to get me back to the freeway and a few trips around the block and I finally made it to the freeway and was pointed in the right direction to get home.
But this morning did give a whole new meaning to the phrase 'lost in a fog!'

I'm not all that sold on those either! My sister has OnStar and I swear they will send you 20 miles out of the way to go around the block half the time.

LOL Ask Santa for a GPS navigation system. I did, because I also have no sense of direction.

Your story reminds me of when I went to pick up my nephew at the airport one summer. Vancouver airport sits on a small island that is surrounded by the Metropolitan. I have lived here almost forever.
It was navigating the turn-pikes that got me. Instead of catching the right cut-off I ended up in Vancouver. I wanted to so to New Westminster, which is to the East not North. Turned around as soon as I could, went back over that bridge and got on the Freeway I needed. Again, missed the r

Your story brings a smile to my face and reminds me of when I lived in San Francisco many years ago. Now since I make my money on the Internet, when weather is bad I just stay home.
