Every time I think the politicians have hit rock bottom...
Now we have Councilmen behaving badly.
From the NY Daily News, it seems letting your kids test their entrepreneurial wings is a major crime that needs police intervention. A grown councilman couldn't handle two young men running an unlicensed cupcake stand in the park. He didn't even make an attempt to talk to the boys. He just calls the police??? Who are we electing to office these days?
Okay granted the boys were wrong for not having a permit. I can understand that so Mr Big Councilman whose title has obviously gone to his head, calls the police to shut them down?
"Drop that cupcake Junior! This is a raid!"
Come on, what a waste of taxpayer dollars. And let's hope that no one decided to rob the local convenience store because the cop (yeah I have problems with the officer too, apologetic or not) was too busy sucking up to a councilman to treat this waste of resources as it should have been treated.
But it's Mr Councilman that really gets under my skin. Two 13 year old boys doing something positive like selling cupcakes instead of crack and Mr Councilman couldn't go over and talk to the two young men and explain that they needed a permit? He couldn't take the opportunity to tell them why they needed it and that the fees they would pay would be used for city services-like paying Barney Fife's salary?
Instead two young boys who were trying to do things the right way get terrorized and traumatized by Johnny Law while the tin dictator looks on? I certainly hope the voters of this town remember what a wuss Mr Councilman is when it comes time for his re-election.

Sorry but if a grown man can't handle children How is he supposed to handle anything else. I worked for a police department for 12 years and I know how it works.
This was not a criminal issue but a civil one. It is the job of the police to deal with criminal issues. Unless the kids assaulted Mr Jackass, threatened Mr Jackass or became publicly disruptive, the only thing that officer was to do was a Civil Standby. The officer did not do that. Furthermore there are procedures when dealing

Hmmm I don't necessary agree with that Cheryl there are always two sides to a story. What if the councilman has had previous experience with doing this and apporoached other teens telling them the laws and such only to be verbally abused. The boys like most teens may think they know everything and and ignore the councilman. I can see that to save time and arguements and hassles a call to the police is needed. The boys will listen to a cop more than a guy off the street or in a suit. Just my opin

@Cheryl, the Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy people call that Overgeneralization. A cognitive distorsion. :)

I'm guilty of being cynical when it comes to politicians (sorry Philippe) and I've even got a couple of them as relatives!!! however my faith was restored recently when the newly elected Mayor of The City of Toronto actually followed through on his promise to help a struggling single mother renovate the house she is living in with her family. To me that's major, and he has gained my respect for doing it.

I'm hoping mom and dad remember him when election time rolls around.
@Philippe all it take is one bad apple to taint the bunch!

Another example that prooves that some politicians waiste their time on petty little things instead of concerning themselves with the more serious issues at hand.
If those where my kids i will make one HUGE issue about it.

What really gets me is that these kids doing something to make money and Councilman Jackass instead of praising these kids for their initiative, showed his only concern was sticking his fingers in their till. I'll just bet is those kids went to city hall and asked for a waiver-they'd get one.

I'm sorry to say it, but what I don't like is the cynicism associated with everything politically related. We can't say all politicians are crooks, no more than saying that lawyers are all in it for the money.
