Eric Schmidt, Google CEO announces the new social network, which is expected to compete directly with Facebook.

At the Google Zeitgeist conference   Eric Schmidt, Google?s CEO said "Our view of social is a little different than what everyone has been writing. We want our core products to get better from social information. The best thing that could happen is if Facebook opened up its network and if we could just use that information... Failing that, there are other ways in which we can get that information."

Google?s power product is search and getting better from social information is a process Facebook is dominating now. The battle for search dominance is not easy and the social component either.

To become more social, Google acquired ?ngstr?. The Palo Alto acquisition was confirmed by Google to the New York Times. ?ngstr?  focuses on developing social media integration applications.

Besides Angstr?, Google acquired Zynga, Jambool, Slide, and Aardvark in an integration process which highlight the relevance that Google is giving to social media as the determining power in the Internet battle to dominate the users preferences and the Internet battle for advertising income.
