I really have to wonder about people's intelligence sometimes
I spent this past weekend on a Nice relaxing fishing trip to the Texas Coast. A little place called Mustang Island in the town of Port Aransas. There's something they allow on Mustang Island that I haven't seen done in other places, they allow "beach" driving.Yes it's exactly what you think stay in your car and drive along the beach. Close to the beach entrances you have packed sand so it's got good traction meaning most vehicles can handle it. Get away from those entrances and you have loose sand. Some vehicles are equipped for this, they are called 4 wheel drive.
However many people don't notice this difference. I was amazed at how many people seem to think 4 wheels equals 4 wheel drive. It was funny how many vehicles we passed during our beach drive buried to the axle in loose sand and having to be towed out. And this wasn't even at the point where they limit the beach to 4 wheel drive.
As you drive along the beach you will soon see a sign that clearly states "4 wheel drive only beyond this point! Beach towing is expensive!" That should be a pretty good indication not to go any farther without a 4 wheel drive vehicle but as I said, questionable intelligence. Several 2 wheel drive vehicles stuck with "Good Samaritans" attempting to free them from the sand. I sincerely hope they did get out because I understand towing fees start at $1,000!
By the way, the Photo is of Little Shell Beach which we drove along in a 4 wheel drive vehicle.
