This Memorial Day

Memorial Day is upon us again. For many this is going to be a weekend of cookouts with family, or great sales in the stores etc etc. But this Memorial Day lets remember the true meaning of this Holiday, honoring those who have fallen to fight for our freedoms.
It's not just those who lie in eternal rest who deserve to be honored. It is those who have left limbs or sanity on the field of battle. It is those who occupy the field of battle today and those who stood ready to take the field if needed. It is those loved ones left behind who deal with the loss of a son, daughter, mother, father or sibling. It's those loved ones left behind who wait with open arms to welcome home the broken body and spirit of the wounded Vet.
Take a moment to remember why we celebrate, it's the greatest honor you can give any soldier. To remember and appreciate what they have won for you.

We walked among the crosses
Where our fallen soldiers lay.
And listened to the bugle
As TAPS began to play.
The Chaplin led a prayer
We stood with heads bowed low.
And I thought of fallen comrades
I had known so long ago.
They came from every city
Across this fertile land.
That we might live in freedom.
They lie here 'neath the sand.
I felt a little guilty
My sacrifice was small.
I only lost a little time
But these men lost their all.
Now the services are over
For this Memorial Day.
To the names upon these crosses
I just want to say,
Thanks for what you've given
No one could ask for more.
May you rest with God in heaven
From now through evermore.
Where our fallen soldiers lay.

As TAPS began to play.

Hopefully people will take a moment this weekend to say thank you. Although my mom never spent a moment in the military herself, she supported all three of her children in the decision to serve and she did with a strength that was amazing to see. So I send my thanks to her today and remember her for the strong woman that she was.
