I just can't resist poking at the Republican Party with a sharp stick
I found this news item very interesting. It makes me wonder if the members of the republican party actually talk to each other.
John McCain has declared that we can win the Iraq war by 2013. But according to good old Dubya we already won in 2003. No maybe it's just me but there's something wrong when a political party doesn't know if it has won a war or not. OR maybe all of the Bushies have conveniently forgotten the image of George declaring "mission accomplished" from the deck of the USS Abraham Lincoln.
So now they recant an say "we can win". How about someone saying "I don't want to play anymore" and taking their expensive high tech toys home. What has really been accomplished in Iraq? A lot of death both of civilians and military. We went into a sovereign country and illegally dismantled it's government leaving behind civil unrest.
Yes I said illegally. Iraq was a sovereign government. Meaning independent with no need or requirement to answer to or be liked by any other government. The very invasion committed was based on a lie. Yes a lie why do you think he was looking for someone to blame it on? Unfortunately for Bush he picked a scapegoat smarter then he was since Condi kept documentation.
So now we have a face saving effort by McCain. People are tired of hearing the war on terror rhetoric. People are tired of picking up the paper to see reports of more young lives lost. The War or terror has lost its appeal. McCain is left to try to salvage the situation.
He has basically said one of two things with his declaration.
One the president and his advisors are flat out liars, or two the president and his advisors are a bunch of idiots since they were too moronic to know we are at war.

Having been an observer of the US presidential contest for some time, I have
to say it would be a very hard decision who to vote for.
None of the candidates appeal to me at all - there is no charisma, no real
sense of responsibility, and no honesty, it seems.
Perhaps I don't know enough about US politics, but there doesn't seem to
be anyone worthy of being the President of what is now the most powerful
country in the world.

Hi Cheryl,
We are watching the forthcoming Presidential elections with great concern this side of the pond.
I think the worst part of it is watching the tremendous worry of many american citizens about the current political situation which seems to have put the United States back many many years in terms of democratic representation and in many instances is unconstitutional....
How right you are to remind us, Cheryl, that the american soldier swears to defend his country and uphold the cons

I watched the McCain video and I am STILL going to vote for him. Obama would be WORSE than McCain. So no matter WHO we get, things are going to SUCK.

I have NEVER voted a 'straight' partyline in my entire life. I grew up in a household of diehard kennedy democrats. When I came of age to vote my parents said 'remember vote for ALL democrats, I said yes, but in the booth haha.. I voted for the person I liked best and it turned out to be a mix of democrats, republicans and I even have voted for a socialist!!. Yes our choices are LOUSY once again, but I will pick based on who I feel is best qualified for the job. It's like I'm an employer, if perf

I really don't care who you vote for as long as you are using your brain ant not blind party loyalty. As long as we blindly vote the party line there is no need for change, no need to address issues. Some states have gone so far as to cater to lazy voters by placing a box allowing them to vote the party line without completing the entire ballot.
As voters we have a responsibility to weight the issues, past performance of the delegates and administration, and the stance of each candidate INDIV

There is more written here than I have the time or energy to follow at the moment, but one nagging question I must ask...Vote, but why vote for anyone? It's always the same story with elections, there's no one worth voting for, so I will vote for the one I despise the least!
Kick them ALL out!

Exactly Karl. I am just not a political person. I really could care less one way or another....if that is wrong then owell. It isn't me. I use to focus on the bad things going on in life, that it was driving me crazy. Putting me in fear. I am not afraid anymore! I agree about the laws, and what is meant and what was written by our founding fathers..and that our physically freedom is diminishing. But so what. I am not going to focus on that. We are still very blessed that we are here today, alive

Hi Jennifer and Cheryl,
Jennifer, I respect your right to NOT vote for McCain. I gues my point is voting is important no matter WHO we vote for. The people of Germany in the 30's were so apathetic about thier election system allowed HITLER to power(I know some have compared BUSH to HITLER). I too was lucky to have a choice NOT to go into the military. My late brother was a Vietnam vet. I will ALWAYS defend our vets even if it WAS THEIR CHOICE to fight. My brother was beaten, attacked and even

I myself chose not to go into the military because I did not want to have to go off to war. But I respect and appreciate all that do.

Unfortunately too many people believe that the choice to join the military is a choice to fight.
My Grandfathers, my Mom, my Dad, my Uncle, my Cousin, my brother, my sister. ALL chose to go in the military. None were forced. My mom, dad, uncle, are all retired military, and my sister is on her way. She could of gotten out....and she has been to Afghanistan many times.

People need to understand exactly what it is our military has enlisted to do. This is the actual oath taken by myself and thousands of others.....
"I, (NAME), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the Pres

Cheryl, they choose to go into the military. HAHA...Cheryl I think your article stirred up some thoughts. LOL. And oh btw I reread my comment about the 'fool' I was calling fool to everyone that wants or thinks us Americans should be scared or 'being an American'. (not YOU in particular)...just wanted to point that out. Karl, I don't even want to see McCain in office. If I do vote it will be for the underdog Libertarian.

As a US army veteran let me say this soldiers do not CHOOSE to fight, they are TOLD to fight. Yes we do have a volunteer army at this point. And the recruiters are going to extraordinary lengths to replenish the ranks. Why because people are not going into the military at the rate they were before this war started. The volunteers they are getting now are among the poorest of us, I guess that's alright they are "undesirables" who see the military as the only option to better their lives, even

I AM going to vote for McCain and YES I AM a Republican. So What??. Do I agree with MOST of their ploicies. NO. But I cannot see myself voting for a democrat who will blunder just as much as a republican. Here is a contrast and the ONE which made me a CONVERT FROM being a democrat TO republican. I voted for Jimmy Carter(a democrat and at THAT time turned out to be the WORST president EVER). I swithced parties and voted for Reagan(a republican and in MY OPINION still is one of the BEST presidents

I am through with living in fear of what is going to happen to our country. I am not going to vote. I know I know, I am not helping by doing this. But what if there isn't anyone that I find worthy to vote for?????
I just don't agree with saying that men and women are dying DAILY in vain and for no reason...that is the bunch of hoopla bull!
I thought at one time that we were fighting a useless 'war', but like I have said....talk to someone in the military. Better yet, watch the newly released 'Ho

I just get sick of people talking down about this war. When MEN AND WOMEN are dying for their country because they CHOOSE to do so. They were not drafted, THEY have CHOSE to be there. If you talk to someone in the military they will BE PROUD to be fighting for our country. US! We should not talk down about it but have pride that we have women and men CHOOSING to do this for us.
