It Is Time To Choose Again

It is time to choose a President again.  For almost a year now we have been bombarded by political candidates' messages that they are the best choice to live in the White House.  It is now down to three, two Democrats and one Republican.

In the beginning of this campaign I was hopeful that the real issues (i.e the war in Iraq, the economy, health care, the rising price of oil/gas) would take center stage in the debates and media.  But alas, these issues have been shoved aside for other "more important" issues (i.e. a lapel pin, an outspoken pastor, whether there were snipers at the Bosnia airport or not, and age?).

Frankly, I really don't care about whether Obama wears an American Flag lapel pen or what his former (and I emphasize former) paster says.  I don't care if Hillary can remember her trip to Bosnia correctly or not.  I don't care how old McCain is.

Here is what I care about.  Are any of these canidates truely quallified to handle the great issues facing America (the economy, the war in Iraq, the rising cost of gas/oil, health care, our political strength on the world stage)?  Will these canidates stand for and protect the rights of all people, or will they stand for those who they like and shun those they deam inferior.  Do they love America more than they love the position, or do they love the position and the power that position affords them more than they love their country?

If you look back on history, this country's greatest Presidents where the ones who put their country before themselves.  They did what they had to do for their country no matter the cost to themselves.  Are any of these canidates willing to do that?  We will probably never be able to determine the answer to that question until after the election because of the over fascination of the media (prompted by political voices that controle the media) with piddling matters such as a lapel pen.
