Rebate Processing Jobs? Warning! Read This Article Before You Sign Up For One Of These Opportunitie
I just got an e-mail today that started me to doing some research. The e-mail had this headline: "Hiring: Rebate Processors Needed." When I clicked on the link provided it sent me to a page that required a password! There was no user name or password provided in the e-mail. That led me to do a simple search on rebate processing jobs.
The top item in the search was for a place that offered rebate processing. It made it sound like a really good deal until I got down to the bottom of the page and saw that they were wanting me to pay a fee to work for them. (Red flag # 1 Why should I have to pay to work for someone?)
The Second item in the search was a link to a forum where someone was asking about rebate processing. All of the responses to the questioner fell in one of two camps.
Camp 1: I have the same questions. Let me know what you find out.
Camp 2: Stay away from these opportunities. They are scams. (Red Flag #2).
There was not a single person who was able to show a rebate processing opportunity that actually worked and made them money. In fact the people in camp # 2 were very negative about them. (Red Flag #3)
There was one respondent who included a link to an article that gave the bottom line on rebate processing jobs. The bottom line is this: Don't bother with them; they are rip offs.
Here is what most of these opportunities according to the article will do:
1. They want you to pay them to work for them. You shouldn't have to pay to work for someone. The whole Idea is for the employer to pay you to work for them, not you pay them.
2. If you do pay the fee (many times the fee is close to $100) there is no access to the forms you need to fill out and the help is next to non existent. Also it is next to impossible to get a refund.
3. They will make you pay the rebate. The opportunity that did not require the author of the article to pay to join required her to pay the rebate out of her own pocket. Then they deducted their expenses from the money they claimed they would pay to her and she was left with less than ten dollars at the end of the month. That did not cover one rebate!
There are companies who do hire home workers to do this type of processing. However they are local companies and you must go in and apply in person. A company in California, lets say, is not going to ship their precious data to someone across the country to enter it into the computer when there are qualified people who can do it for them locally.
Here are some tips to finding legitimate work to do from your home.
1. Becoming an employee of any company should be free. Run away if they want or require a sign-up fee. (Note: Starting a business is a little different. There are costs to starting a business. However, there are business opportunities that don't require a lot of start up fees.)
2. Read the fine print. Read and understand the terms and conditions of the opportunity.
3. Ask questions. If your question is not answered in the FAQ page contact the company via e-mail or better yet by phone if a phone # is available. If they don't give you a satisfactory answer, run away.
4. Ask questions in a blog or forum dedicated to work from home opportunities. There are many people who are experienced in home based work or businesses and will gladly answer your questions. You may be able to find your answer to your questions just by reading through the topics. More than likely someone has asked the same questions you have.
5. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. This may be a cliche' but it is true.
6. Use common sense. Be realistic. There is no free ride. If you want to earn money from home you have to work at it, more than 40 hours per week at times to make it pay. There is no such thing as a set it and forget it way of making money.
Although there are legitimate work opportunities you can do from your home, there are many scams. Online rebate processing is, for the most part, going to be one of those scams. You will be better off to delete any e-mail offering this kind of work.
