Is Free really Free?
The FTC is clear about advertising products that are touted as free.
Okay, so you receive an email with an offer to get some "must have" marketing report - totally free. You click the link in the email and go to the web page. But before you receive the report, you have to enter your name and email address.
Then you have to confirm your email address and after confirmation, you receive another email with the download link in it.
To me, this is confirming your email address to JOIN someones list, that you will receive emails from on probably a regular basis trying to sell you something or download someone elses e-book (where you have to go through the same process to get the e-book).
So the download you get is free, yes. Or do is it? You're giving up your personal information just to get the download, only to continue receiving emails from whomever you got the download from.
I suppose its all in ones perception of what is really free - isn't it.

Totally Jenny!
When I give away something free in my Avon business, free means free. I give gifts to customers who appreciate me and the service I provide to them. They pay nothing extra for the items. My customers are happy and that makes me happy. And successful.

Garnet,
You can follow me around. LOL!
Yep, they waste my most valued asset too - time! I quit chasing pipe dreams a long time ago. The only ones that are getting rich off the free stuff are the Guru's (and I use that term VERY loosely) The only dreams I chase now are MY dreams.

I guess the saying "There's no such thing as a free lunch" is right
after all? :-)

Hi Lisa
It does seem that one day someone realized that the word FREE got attention. Since then it is possibly one of the most abused words in the English Dictionary.
Free used to mean - given away with nothing asked in return! Now it just means giving away your time, private information and heavens knows what else.
We will have to think of another word for things that are really free, because when you do say it - noone believes it anymore!!LOL
Take Care

Hi Lisa....you've probably noticied I'm following you around by now, or at least I'm feeling that way..LOL(it's that little piece of spyware they gave us, 'what my friends are doing', handy tool ;-)
My beef with the 'FREE' products? Usually they waste my TIME...which just might be my most valuable asset! I am much more productive now that I only seek out the products I need for my business and don't waste time chasing pipe dreams(which is what they sell you on them long sales pages!)
