Sorry but if we are going to use the words wrestling and lady in the same sentence there is only one name the comes to mind and it's just.....Fabulous! RIP Moolah you are still the Champ, still a trailblazer and most of all still a Legend.
Thank you Beth for using the word "athlete". Professional wrestlers are indeed athletes. Yes we all know it's decided who is going to win and lose before the matches even start. But what happens in the ring is the cooperation of the combatants. Sometimes you can catch their instructions to each other if you watch closely.
I had a more detailed history of Moolah and other Women in sports, including one of my Fine Ladies for this subject, but it got swallowed by an Apsense glitch... I try again later on...
She won her last title at the age of 74!
She held the title for 30 years
No one else can make that claim. Not the Rock, Not Hulk Hogan not Rick Flair.
In addition to being champion she was also a trainer, manager and promoter. And she had a great sense of humor. All you have to do is look at the things she and Mae Young got into in their older years.
She was also still one tough lady taking bumps and getting into the thick of things well into
This lady (and those who were in the ring at the time) broke the barriers for what passes as lady wrestlers today. During Moolah's heyday you have to get in the ring and fight. None of this pillowfight bra and panties matches.
In Moolah's day it was about wrestling now it's about how much skin can I show and not get censored. I schedule bathroom breaks and refrigerator raids when the woman come on now.

By the way Moolah got her start during the time of "shoots" when the combatants actually did what they pretend to do now.
