Could you save a life during the holidays?
There is a sad statistic we live with. During the holidays traffic accidents increase. While many are "fender benders" a great number are serious. Victims are airlifted to local hospitals in an effort to save lives. You may not be a doctor or paramedic but there is something that you can do that is of the utmost importance and it will only take a few moments of your time, donate blood.
Blood donors give the "gift of life" to others. Your blood could save a life. It's a relatively painless procedure that I've gone through many times. As a matter of fact I have my "Two gallon" pin. I have over my lifetime donated more than two gallons of this precious liquid. The only requirement is that you be in good health.
Do you know your blood type? There are four blood types: Type A, Type B, Type AB and Type O
Then there is your RH factor which is where the positive and negative designations come from.
Negative RH is rarer than positive RH.
Type AB negative is the rarest type of blood.
Type O positive is considered an universal donor.
Type AB positive is considered a universal recipient.
No matter what your blood type it is needed to stock blood banks. When blood banks run low on the supply it means that a life could be lost. During the holidays many blood banks may have a hard time keeping their supply on hand. If you are healthy make it a point to donate. It does you no harm and your body replaces what it has lost. You can safely donate every two months. Which means you can save a life six times a year!

It is important. Those donations during the holidays make a world of difference. It's so important that our neighborhood homeowner's association is going to be sponsoring semi annual blood drives at our clubhouse! one around memorial day and another right around thanksgiving!

Yes a smile means the world to many people. There are lots of people who are around to smile today simply because someone donated blood.

Thank you Cheryl! I learned a few things and I am getting ready to join you. I would like to add that during the holiday season emotional stress is also a killer and sometimes a smile can be as good as a pint of blood. Let your smile shine during the holidays and always; it could save a life!

I think donating blood is a great thing to do. It can often mean the difference between life and death!

Hi Cheryl..
This is a great reminder. I haven't donated for years. I did several times when my daughters were school age so they could go with me and see me be so heroic! LOL... setting a good example and all that...
I'll have to find out when and where blood donations take place in this community. I think lots of people just don't because they don't know that... where to go and when it happens...
2 gallons? I'm about to pass out thinking about that!
