Hello, Today I am You
Hello Mr About to have AIDS,
I wanted to take a moment to thank you for your generosity. You see yesterday I was someone else and today I am you. Yes, I am now you. You made it easy for me by tossing out all your old hospital bills in the garbage yesterday. Those old bills allowed me to become you.
You see they had your name and address and your insurance policy numbers. You didn't shred it first like your neighbors so it was easy for me to take it. After all when you put your garbage out it's abandoned property so I wasn't even committing a crime at that point. I will however commit a crime today.
I want to get treatment for my HIV but it is expensive and I don't have insurance. Since you were willing to share yours I'm on my way to the hospital right now. And guess what, my HIV won't even show up on my medical history but yours. So allow me to apologize in advance for all the problems this will cause you in the future.
Sincerely,
I. M. You
Hello Mrs Screwed,
I come to this country to work. The human smuggler say there is much work here and I hard worker. So I come, but they not let me work. They say I need social security number. I talk to others who come and they give me name of man who sell me the number. I had to pay a lot of money for number. But now I have number I can get job and paycheck. They tell me to let others come to this country know where they can get number too. They also tell me they pay $150 everytime I find new number for them. I make lots of money now.
Yo, Dude!
Just wanted to let you know I got in the club last night! I had an awesome time, shaking it with the hotties and downing the Budweisers. To bad about the pig that pulled me over. Just cause I was weaving a little on the way home. Well I guess it's for the best since the 'rents would have killed me if I came home wasted. Luckily I used your driver's license to get in the club. Well I fixed those cops. LOL! I gave them your license when they arrested me. As soon as I'm out of this lockup I'm clear! Dude you're the one who got the DUI!
Party on!
None of these letters are real, but the sentiments in them are. An Identity thief won't send you a thank you letter but you can bet somewhere a thief has caused these situations to be set in motion by stealing an identity. It's not about the money folks, it's about using your information for their gain at your expense.

So true Darlene. In my years with the police department we had a young man who was a victim of identity theft. If not for the fact that he was known to us and had grown up in that ssmll town, along witht he fact that most often our department did a lot of 'make work', that young man would have been arrested and extradited to New England from Florida and sat in a jail cell until he could have proven that he was not the felon in question.
And for your CEO-it's much the same thing I deal with

I took on my cable/internet company with concerns about Identity Theft. In order to obtain service they had instructed their service technicians to obtain either our Driver's License Number or our Social Security Number - to "protect our security". Hello? When I refused to provide that information the technician simply hung up on me and I was sitting there without any service which I needed.
I got angry.
I love the Internet. I found the CEO of that Company and sent him an email, wh

The biggest challenge in being an ITRMS is education. People just don't get it until it happens to them. And then they wonder why.

Protect, secure, shred, use common sense...

Jenn is correct you have to have trained experts handle your recovery. Once the consequences of Identity theft hit the databases, it's like an aggressive fast moving cancer. Cleaning up your credit is not going to help you with anything except cleaning up your credit. I can guarantee that Citibank will not help you when you are getting arrested at 3am on a warrant or you're are trying to explain that you are not HIV+. You need something that will help you with all of the areas of ID theft an

Very true! When you throw out anything with your ID or numbers on it, either
shred it or make it totally unreadable. I must remember to do this more often.
After all, it's easy to purchase a small, inexpensive shredder, which would be
much cheaper than paying someone else's credit bill on your card, or having
a DUI on your record.

You hear the horror stories. You see the news. Identity theft has become the greatest threat to your personal privacy and your financial security. It's a problem you can't afford to ignore.
What is true identity protection? It's:
* Protecting your whole identity, not just your credit.
* Protection for your entire family including children.
* Full identity monitoring - pro actively watching out for
all forms of identity theft, including credit fraud.
* Having a truly compr

Identity theft is a part of life. It's amazing how many people still think it can't happen to them. It's unfortunate that many wait until it's too late to wake up. The biggest problem is battling the misconceptions. 90% of the people you talk to never get past the credit cards and bank accounts which I purposely left out!

I have a nephew who was recently arrested because of identify theft. Think it can't happen to you? Thank again.
