A new day a new pic
Well in case you didn't notice this is a new pic. I just got it from a friend of mine from church. We had our 18th annual church picnic on the 7th of October and this year we did something new. Or first annual art show! The idea is that we have talented people at our church, I will attest that the answer is yes. Everyone was invited to bring their art work down and display it. I aswered the call.
It took a little rummaging to find the old needlepoint but I did. For a while in the late 90's I was really into counted cross stitch. So I gathered up a few pieces and took them on down. The picture is of me standing in front of some of my work. I got out of cross stitch a while back and moved on to baby blankets. Unfortunately all of my blankets were given away to friends for their babies or grand babies. But that's on the agenda for next year's showing. The blankets take a long time to do since I hand crochet each one. I don't stop there though. Each blanket has a theme. I'll go down to the fabric shop and buy a couple of yards of material and edge the blanket and and add hand cut images. All of this is done by hand so it takes at least 6 weeks.
The best one I ever did I donated to a silent auction. It ended up bringing only $25, I wasn't very happy with them letting it go for that since there was a least $40 in materials and had put a reserve of $50 on it but it was for a good cause. And that wasn't the only steal people got that night. There were just too many items available. The blanket was actually one of the pricier items at $25. But anyway the blanket was white with gold edging and a gold crescent moon surrounded by stars. It took me 2 1/2 months due to all the hand cutting and sewing of the stars. I'm actually considering getting back into it again spare time. Maybe you'll see some pop up in my business center in the future!

Well James you were just right around the corner from where I grew up in Williamsburg. Thanks to the history and traditions there were always arts and crafts classes of one sort or another available. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it. Many men would not admit it!
Wendy I don't really use patterns on my blankets. I use a basic single or double chain stitch. Then I just let my personality come out in the hand cut applique. So no two blankets are ever the same.

I love crocheting as well Understand completely how much time and effort it takes to create or make one
done several baby blankets as well as adult size sweaters (from knitted patterns I might add)
Have to make another baby blanket now cause my son & wife are expecting in April
Unfortunately the pattern I wanted to use is ruined and unable to locate another like it
Guess I will have to do something else

I enjoyed reading your article. When I was in the Air force I use to go to different arts and crafts classes when I was stationed at Langley Air Force Base. I was a young airman at the time. Those classes were a lot of fun and I wish I stayed with them longer and really keep on learning how to do them. Now it is hard to find good classes on arts and crafts. But I will keep on looking and see if I can get started again.
Peace!
