Kindness is a powerful thing

We think of kindness as a gentle word.  However this is one of the most powerful forces on earth.  It is powerful because it is the child of Love.  You cannot have kindness without love.  I mean the type of love know in Greek as Agappe.  You often hear this type of love connected with religion. That is because it is generous love.

This is the love that influences you to reach out your hand to help a stranger.  It's the type of love that allows you to look at your meager possessions and share with those less fortunate.  It's the type of love that encourages you to clothe the naked and feed the hungry.  It is simply put, a sharing type of love.

In today's world it seems to be rarer and rarer to find it.  Everyone is concerned with me, me, me!  When it arises it's a message so powerful it makes the news.  They call it human interest stories.  The media would have us believe it's something that happens once in a blue moon but it is not.  It happens everyday.

There are those would go quietly about their lives spreading kindness.  They get no mention on the news, they are not hailed as heroes but they exist.  It's the young man who sees a woman struggling to change a tire on the side of the road and stops to help her.  It's the single working mother who sees a homeless vet and gives him a dollar or two.  It's the gentleman who holds the door for you when you enter an establishment.  It's the child who donates a favorite toy to charity.  All you need to do is look around you to see kindness expressed daily. 

The thing we must all do is to join the unsung heroes in this crusade, it's not hard.  a kind word to a street person.  Change put in a collection jar for a cause.  Offering to pick up something from the store for an elderly neighbor.  The thing is that one act of kindness can do more for you than the person you help.
