Installing an OEM harddrive
To install an OEM IDE hard drive, use the following process:
1. Assess Computer Capacity - This means that all computers may not be able to accept the new 250GB HDD (Hard Drive) that you want to install. Older computers were built to operate HDDs of much small configuration.
2. In case the capacity limit is due to the computer, you may want to assess variables like BIOS upgrade, Operating System Upgrade or additional controller installations.
3. Check if the IDE ribbon cable is available.
4. You need mounting screws mostly which normally do not ship out with HDDs while the mounting brackets should be in place.
5. Once you have answers to all of the above requirements, you should be set to begin install.
Common precautions before installing:
1. Back up data on your existing HDD
2. Wear an anti static strap
3. Power off the PC and disconnect all cables.
4. Check and review the jumper setting which will tell you whether you are installing the drive as a master or a slave.
5. Install the drive into the mounting bracket and tighten the screws.
6. Reconnect the disconnected wires.
7. Powerup
8. Configure the BIOS.
9. Save and Exit
Hope this helps.
