Make Your Website More Findable

One  of the great unknown factors when we get our website online at last, is how to make it as 'visible' to the search engines as possible.

In a way, the content and the layout is very important. Have we got good information flow? Is everything that should be shown on the website covered, and is it optimized for the search engines to find it?

Looking around at some so-called business sites, it is frankly, not the case, for many small operators. Many are poorly designed, or  littered with spelling errors or just plain don't really tell us anything. Then there are others that look great - but have no call to action, or instruction as to how to get what they have to offer.

To anyone selling website design services, they will happily try to convince you that you need a high graphic, maybe flash based website that is great to look at... but ultimately is  useless, from the point of view of getting customers to buy.  They will tell you that you need it to look "professional" - whatever that means! To me, it means, I can see what you do, the website tells me a bit about you and there is something there that indicates that other people have liked what you have done for them.

One way to do that, without it costing a fortune, or even needing any great skills in web design, is to make use of the tools and widgets that Merchant Circle provide freely for members who claim their listing and start participating to promote their business.
