Almost all network marketing companies have great products. The first thing you must ask yourself is can I make money with this product? Is the product priced so that people will buy it? Is it a product that people will call me to buy? Is it a product that appeals to most people? Mistake number 10 is joining a company because you fell in love with the product. Ask yourself is this a product that I can use, recommend, sell and which can I make a profit?

Dumping On Prospects
Many folks pull up to a prospect and dump a ton of info on them at one time. Everything they know about the company, compensation plan, and products. God blessed us with 2 ears and one mouth for a reason. We need to spend twice as much time listening than we do talking. Your prospects will tell you everything you need to know if you will only LISTEN to what they have to say. Your prospect will tell you everything you need to know to become their sponsor in your company. They will tell you what’s missing and what changes they want in their life. When you’re talking, you cannot hear your prospect. Remember we have two ears for a reason.

Not Having A 99.9% Why
In order to be successful in network marketing you need to know exactly what your motivation is. I always ask the people I mentor: “What is your why?†Is it big enough to keep you going when the going gets tough? It has to be. What is your driving force? Your “why†is not about money. It is never the money that keeps someone going. It is what you would do with the money. If money wasn’t an issue where would you live? What would you drive? Where would you vacation and how often? You must know why you are here on this planet. If you have not written your why, stop right now. Close your eyes and picture what your perfect day would be. Then write those thoughts down and read them everyday.

Making A List Of
Family & Friends
How many times have you heard: “The first thing you need to do is make a list of everyone you know and lets go get em in.†There is no doubt in my mind that the Hatfield’s and McCoy’s feud started from one signing the other up in their home based moon-shine business. Your friends and family love you and want to save you from this terrible thing called MLM (multi-level marketing). I believe in only working with people who seek me out. Not Having A Proven System
Making a list of or recruiting everyone within three feet of you is not a proven system. To have massive success in this industry you must have a system that anyone can use. This system has to provide you with a steady flow of targeted prospects. What is the difference between a targeted prospect and everyone else you know or meet? Targeted prospects that have the same desires that you do. These are prospects that already have made the decision to create that extra income. They have raised their hand and said, “I want to know more.†Do not join a company that cannot show you a proven system of generating leads that line up to join you.

Convincing Instead of Attracting
Have you ever told anyone, “I know you would be good at this†or “Hey, why not join me you are already doing it everyday anyway?†Do you find yourself looking for people who need what you have? At one time or another we are all guilty. The problem with this is that there is a universal law attached. It goes something like this: if I convince you to join today then I have to convince you to join again next month and the next month and the next. If you constantly have to re-sell your business, how will you ever automate your income? The answer is: You won’t. Not only will you not have time to enjoy life, you won’t even have time to find new prospects because you’ll be spending all your time re-recruiting the current ones. This is why I make it a rule to only sponsor people in my business who have asked to join me. Besides the logic behind it, its fun when you have people call asking to join you.

Failing to Understand the
Compensation Plan
Most networkers start their network marketing business with dreams of making the big bucks. Do you have any idea how many people it takes on your team to meet your income goals? Now, we’re not talking about a one time recruiting bonus. No way. We’re talking monthly recurring income. If asked today can you tell me how many people you need to make $5,000 or $10,000 a month with your company? You wouldn’t accept a job offer if you didn’t know what the pay was, would you? Remember that network marketing is a real career, just like any other. Yes, you have more freedom and a greater potential for profit, but it’s still a real business and you need to know what you stand to gain financially from it. You must know those numbers.

Never Reading The Contract
99.9% of everyone who joins a network marketing company does so to create a walk- away or retirement income. Isn’t that the dream? You want to work a few hours a day for the next few years so that you can retire and live your perfect day everyday, right? It’s great to have a dream, but don’t get so caught up in it that you’ll sign up for anything that promises to deliver. Its unbelievable how many people join a company and never read the Policies & Procedures. This is your legal, binding-in-a-court of law contract. When you read your contract look for these clauses: on going sales, continuing sales and termination without cause; just to name a few. These clauses in a contract will keep you from ever retiring from your company. Would you join a company knowing from the beginning that you could never hang up the six shooters and enjoy life.

But there's more: Network Marketing is about people gaining control of their lives, following their dreams, living their values and supporting other people to do the same. This is a great article. I think it is well written and I believe you are very right. Most people are focusing too much on the money. Of course I like anyone else need money but most of have more important factors of my "why" that factor into why I am in this business. Thanks for pointing it out to me though again, sometimes you forget or get sidetracked when you are busy.
