Which is harder: Your Social Network or Your Business?
For my first blog post here at Apsense, I would like to address something that just literally occurred to me.
Which is harder and more time-consuming - setting up and running your business or setting up and running your social network (such as Apsense)?
Both take a lot of effort, time, and decision making. Both are important to the survival and success of your business.
More importantly, how do you allot appropriate time to both areas without hurting either one? You can spend hours a day posting to your groups here at Apsense. But you need to spend time at your business(es) tweaking your website, adding products, attending to customer service requests, making sure your inventory is up-to-date, link exchanges, learning new webmaster skills, etc etc etc.
Sometimes, I just want to bang my head on the desk. I know we can move Daylight Savings Time around here in the US ... but can't we also add more hours to the day? *chuckles* I for one could do with about 30 hours per day. Between social networking, running my 3 businesses, housework (I work from home), chatting with friends online, doing personal research online, and doing personal fun stuff offline (reading, cross stitch, etc) ... that lives little time for sleep, eating, and 'vegging' in front of the TV to wind down. Geez, I'm winded just typing all that! LOL.
So ... how do you juggle all the necessary elements of running a business? Do you setup a strict schedule each day on how long you will attend to each element? Do you just go with the flow of the day?
I want to have fun running my businesses. I just didn't realize having fun was such hard work!

Hi, maybe you can do both with time limitation. I have a same problem with you and i decided to choose which one is important for today...
Maybe today your business need more time, maybe tomorrow your social networking.
It's up tp you as long as you have time limitation for everything you do

Coach T - thanks so much for your comments! Definitely something to think about!
Sherri - I hear you about DirectMatches ... I give up there. And like you, I am paring down on the number of social/business networking sites I am a member of ... there's only so much time for those things. You've got to leave time for your actual business ... keeping inventory fresh in an online store, keeping your website optimized for the search engine gods, etc.

Hi I meant to get here sooner but alas me thinks I need to make a schedule as well and stick to it (blush)
Everyone has made excellent comments and suggestions.
I tried Direct Matches and it works great if you are a paid member Not so hot for the free ones though. Hence I didn't get very far with as I couldn't afford the paid status at that point.
Sherri Loved your eieio lol With an article here and an article there eieio

Wow, Yes I agree with you totally. As a Matter of fact I tried to start an organization group because, of the social chaos, lol. I was beginning to think I was the only one that had this problem because of the low response.
I must say say I like that Apsense cuts out all of the nonsense such as those comments like, "Happy Wednesday". I could never indulge myself in such meaningless conversations no matter how much it paid. That is probably why I am not winning any popularity contests at Yuw

Being for over 20 years in the field I can tell you that to run a SUCCESSFUL business you must have:
- Vision, strength and passion
- Powerful alliance partnerships
- Powerful marketing tactics
- Clear and detailed action plan
- Resources
Otherwise the result of your efforts are: - False starts, confusion, anxiety, frustration, limited success, sluggish results.

Goldie,
You do bring up some good points about the number of businesses.
My freelance web work is what pays the bills, my only guaranteed income.
The store is what I want to be our bread and butter down the road. I need to get hubby out of the furniture factory. He's been doing that work for about 20 years and it's wrecked havoc on his body.
The OBA business really isn't that time consuming. When I advertise the store, I also advertise this one.
I will certainly check out the site y

Joanne,
I'm in Alexander County - north of Hickory, west of Statesville. It's been ages since hubby and I were last in Asheville, but that's where we want to live, in that region. One of our goals!!!
Thanks so much for your suggestions and tips and for taking the time to post here.

Hi Barbara,
Perhaps cutting down on the number of businesses you have would free up more time. Are you earning from each one of them?
I just set aside so many hours for each task and stick to it. You do need some quality time for youself too. Take a lunch break for an hour just like you would if you were driving to a job. Get up and stretch a bit and take a walk. We tend to put on the pounds if you don't get up and exercise some each day.
While I am here, may I offer you some free ad

Yes the days really fly. I dont have kids so that right there gives me more time. LOL
Sometimes it takes awhile to really convert traffic to sales. In my case , I have a health related product so I try and target people who would have an interest in that. Of course ,there is a business opportunity as well and it isnt hard to find people who want to make more money, it is finding the right ones we are after.
A lot of people join a company and then do nothing or else very little. It's not

Joanne,
Thanks for the comments! You definately have busy days too! LOL
I also have several Squidoo lens (username: celticdreams). I am getting traffic from them to my sites, but just not converting into sales. *pouts*
Since I do not have the necessary equipment, I can not utilize sites such as YouTube in my marketing. I am on dialup - I can barely view half the videos as it is! *pouts some more!*
Article writing, while I agree is an excellent source of traffic, is hard also - how do I

Hello Barbara!
You asked some good questions and brought up interesting points about running a business from home!
You certainly sound like a busy lady.
I find the best thing to do is prioritize and set goals, both short term ones and long term ones.
My business involves finding customers and business builders as well as training new people who come into the business.
Then of course there is advertising and promotion to keep building.
For me the most important tasks are taking care of my c
