Rethinking Your Marketing Plan

In the last few months I have totally revised my marketing strategies. After being on the internet for several years, I find that the "hard and fast" rules change. The content for the most part stays the same.

I get more notice if I show a lot of white space and pictures. I get a higher rating if I write 2 line paragraphs.

I get better ratings if the page can be read by scanning and not by reading.

For a writer this is frustrating.

That is true. Not only since Pinterest has launched people like to see. Pictures say more than words. I remember when I worked in a network marketing company they told us that we can explain and explain but if we show also some pictures which show something the customer like you have 10 times better chances to make a sale. Internet is more a visual medium than in the old days of mailboxes and forums. Videos and pictures are easy understandable marketing instruments and every serious marketer should use them. At this point I have to mention Philippe Moisan because of all his awesome videos. I guess he has some great results with this.

Yes, I agree. People spend less time on reading. Picture and Video may gain more attention.

Hey Terry thanks for sharing. I actually haven't changed anything I have done in years and years. But let me give you some info as to what you are noticing.

"I get more notice if I show a lot of white space and pictures. I get a higher rating if I write 2 line paragraphs."

Adding pictures to me is only logical you will rank better and get more traffic. There are two reasons for this - one, a vast amount of traffic comes from image searches. Two is that images give added verification to search engines about the content at hand. The ability to do image matching (reverse image search) gives search engines the ability to see if what you are tagging your image in the same general categories as people posting the same or similar images. Then this is compared to the topic on your page. Without an image, the search engine must rely only on text - meaning one less thing they will be able to verify with.

Whitespace - I have told people for years never make paragraph longer than 2 sentences and use the enter (p or br) frequently online. The internet is filled with people who can't read and comprehend. Your pages should be easy enough for a 6 year old to read LITERALLY. This means pictures, short paragraphs, and simple words.

Google ranks content based on who they believe the best target audience is. Large well formed paragraphs, means less people will actually understand your site ie. children and those not fluent in your language.

This aside the act of writing shorter paragraphs also is very likely to change the keyword density ratio.

Glad to see you are able to adjust accordingly :)

Thanks for all the input. My wife is an author of 5 books and I am also a published author.

It is frustrating having to re-arrange my writing, that took years to develop, so it is more readable.

I am currently reading "Petrus Romanus by Thomas Horn & Cris Putnam". It is a 528 page book on the last Pope and loaded with Latin. Also NO Pictures. :)

Anyway, I enjoy the internet and article writing.

@ Terry I think I have read a few days ago about how google changed their search engine to weight more to videos. So when you are a good writer just spice up your article with some related pictures. The whole article becomes easier to read. I myself do prefer articles with some nice related pics in there instead of plain, long text.

There will always be changes in marketing and online business and you have to adapt.

Yes, I had several videos awhile back and deleted them all because I wasn't happy with the results I was getting.

I need to make some more new videos. I probably will head out to the airplane and make some videos and write articles related to my flying adventures.

firstly Videos and Images are a totally seperate SEO strategies. Secondly valued and relevant Content is King. It gets complicated as we move forward into building a Landing Page versus a Blog or article or whatever... Simple paragraphs will not pass the test of a well structured 1200 word article... blogs can be more flexible for spelling and grammar. the concept is in blogs to use anchor text..the article directories want content without links...save that for your authors box and so hence when your promoting something bear the above in mind...even if it"s not your own product. Every image you place and every video you create needs to be optimised accordingly to your content or website ... enough from me...onto others

Trev you are 100% correct, yet at the same time not correct. Video and images have completely different and separate SEO strategies however at the same time, they also have a blended SEO strategy.

What I mean is if you create a post or an article, and within that post or article you add an image the SEO done to the image, also has an effect on the content. So you don't want to have an image optimized for flyfishing displaying on your article about nascar racing. Doing so will actually hurt your content ratings. (kind of like linking to relevant content vs linking to random content).

Now clearly no one is going to the extreme of putting a flyfishing picture on a nascar site without good reason, but you can get the idea of just how much image and video do effect the seo of content and are not just "separate" within and of themselves

I can see where I slipped up there Bruce and thanks for pointing it out...I simply didn't clearly sate that relevance to niche or topic for images or videos to the blog or article, or landing page are of vital importance... They do have separate SEO strategies...yet the SEO is simple after the research for niche and topic have been performed. part of that SEO is of course link building "White Hat"
but thats another subject

videos are stealing the scene for many a marketer.. I even find myself far prefering seeing a tutorial than reading the instructions.. YoutTube is the second largest search engine.
