Keywords is something that won't hurt! You always want to keep them in mind when writing for squidoo. A little keyword research won't hurt! And as for the amount of time "needed" is depending on many factors. A lens can take you up to 2 hours, or 1 hour and 15 minutes. It comes down to how well you want your lens to rank and perform. And the writing skill you are writing at! :D
