Add an RSS feed from sites that are related to your subject. Twitter feed will feed fresh new information to your Twitter account. The more tweets the more the followers. If you're not getting followers then there is not enough people interested in your subject. 
Google AlertsThis is a free Google tool to find articles that are related to your subject. Type in a keyword or phrase and a list of news, articles and blogs will appear. Copy the RSS feed and paste it in Twitter Feed. When ever there is new content on your subject it will update on your Twitter. 
FUN FACT:If you are in a group here on Apsense that is related to your twitter market, find the RSS feed for the group and add it to Twitter Feed. When ever omaeone in the group writes a new subject it will appear in your tweets.
