Current  time scale:- Operation for  above the knee amputation day (8 Aug 2010)  plus 56 ( 8 weeks)

Well  so far I have been using a practice leg and  getting on very  well with it.

I
am still between the parallel bars but  have  progressed to one bar and
a walking stick for support. I am going to need a good bit of practice
before going on to two sticks and  no bars as I am not  too stable as
yet as I am.

Today  I had the cast  made  for  my  own leg and  next  Wednesday  I go back for  a first  fitting.

Things are  looking  up and  I think I am on target  to reach the goals I have set  my self for  Christmas.

Hi Zac, thanks for the thoughts. You do realize you are talking to the nutter that took 16 hours off (out of planned schedule)to have the amputation done and with less worry or nerves about it than someone going to the dentist would have. :-)

Your too funny Bill.

I have only ever been for a minor operation for a hernia and I was scared stiff lol.

@Zac I make fun of it but it is perfectly true. I was doing a one on one training on the Tuesday night which finished around 11 pm.
I was chatting on skype with a couple of people The Wednesday morning till about 12 noon when Wendy and her friend Carol, who had agreed to sit with her during the operation, arrived. I was awake for a while around 6 pm I think it was but due to the anesthetic I am not too sure about that period. at 10.30 - 11.00 Thursday morning I was out of bed and sitting in a chair. and by 2.pm I was back on the Internet.

@Sean When I started rehab about 3 weeks ago they asked me what my expectations were. One of the things I put down was to be able to dance a slow dance with Wendy on Christmas day. I also have the target of climbing 13 stairs as the place we are spending Christmas day is a first floor apartment. I am currently at the point of still being between the parallel bars but using one bar and a walking stick as support. next step will be get used to my own leg then progress to two walking sticks and then as time goes on hopefully to get stable enough to reduce back to one stick or even better to no sticks.but that is a few months away i think.
