The next big thing.....

How many times in a day do we get hit in the face with this phrase.  I am about at my wits end with all of the next big things.  At least 15-20 emails a day with someone claiming to have the next big thing in this or the next big thing in that.  Heck just check out some of the blog titles right here on APSense.  It seems almost everyone has the next big thing.

Allow me to have a little harmless sadistic pleasure here.  Everybody cannot have the next big thing. If you think you have the next big thing you're more than likely right.  The next big thing to market to gullible suckers. How many next big things have you gotten involved with that turned out to be a big nothing?

Let's look at some of those next big things:

Excel/Long Distance Calling cards
Excel had MC Hammer proudly proclaiming he was a salesman for them.  Long distance was the way to go.  Well Hammer should have turned that song around to please excel don't hurt me because Excel/MCI and all of those other long distances carriers went straight down the toilet and took a lot of good people with them.

Yuwie
You get paid for what you are already doing.  Look at My space and think about if you could have shared in the profits, you'd be rich.  If Yuwie is paying your bills please let me know because I can't even afford a Happy meal with what I have earned there.  Yuwie is not an income generator.  But it has potential.  Yes I'm sure that will be great retirement income.

House Flipping
I guess if you have enough money to buy a house in need of repair and repair it you don't need the next big thing.  Especially in a depressed market.  But then again if you have that kind of money you can afford to sit on that house for a while can't you.

Maybe it's time to stop chasing the next big thing and look at the old proven things.  Good solid products, reputable established companies and work.  Remember this is the information age the next big thing becomes obsolete almost overnight.
