The state of California has passed an identity theft bill that could make local prosecutors more aggressive in handling identity theft issues. The big problem with identity theft prosecution is often jurisdiction. Your information was stolen in one place and used in a different place but neither one is where you live.
Under the new bill a judge will decide where to hold the trial, where the information was stolen, where it was used or where you live. If the criminal can be traced prosecution will be much easier all around.
