Quick and easy fudge

I know this is going to sound somewhat strange but it really is good and it is easy enough for the kids to help make.
The original recipe was in a pillsbury monthly cookbook but we have adapted it somewhat to suit ourselves and make it easier for the 'little' ones.
Microwave fudge
1 pkg chocolate chips (milk chocolate or semi sweet your choice)
1 can ready to spread frosting, milk chocolate or fudge flavor
about 1 cup candy pieces or the new candy chips now available like Andes Mint Chips, Heath Bar Chips etc.
Melt the chocolate chips in the microwave for about 2 minutes--exact time will vary depending upon the power of your microwave
Immediately stir in the frosting and one half of the candy pieces or candy chips
pour into an 8 x 8 buttered pan and sprinkle the remaining chips on top
Cool completely and cut into squares. You can also make this without adding the chips and use a small amount of nuts if you wish.
Personally I prefer the darker flavor of semi sweet chips and fudge frosting with mint chips or plain.
Peppermint variation--this is the favorite among our friends
1 pkg white chips
1 can ready to spread vanilla frosting
about 1 teaspoon peppermint flavoring ( as a Watkins Associate I use the new Pure Peppermint Extract)
a few drops of red food coloring
about three candy canes crushed
Melt the chips as for the original fudge recipe and add the frosting
While stirring add the flavoring and mix well
pour into a prepared 8 x 8 pan,dot with food coloring and swirl with a toothpick, then add tge crushed peppermint candy canes on top
Cool and cut into squares.
These are not gourmet fudges but fun fudge for the whole family. Quick to make and the kids can help.
