Much of the golf boom in China and the South East Asian countries like Taiwan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines, stems from the Japanese tourists and business travellers, who over the last fifteen to twenty years have promoted the growth of the game by financing the courses. The Hong Kong region is a popular area, with the local population acquiring a major interest in the game. China has tremendous amount of land offering a variety of settings and course layouts. Most courses are private clubs selling memberships, but they are affiliated with hotels and resorts and are actually semi-private.
