How to use online communities
Today's online communities are fast becoming the most popular sites and have the greatest potential for successful recruiting. Many have had a lot of success in various methods of marketing and recruiting. Online communities are setting a whole new standard for networking, marketing, advertising and recruiting. People get to know you, see you are actually a live person not just a name on a screen. People would always prefer to join anything through someone they know and feel comfortable with. Joining these communities is a start. However we all must be active. Why? Simply because if you are not active how will anyone know you are even there?
First make sure you set up your personal profile. People want to know who they are communicating or dealing with. This is the most important first step in any community. Also be sure to place a picture on your profile and a means to be contacted. Yes, they can contact you through the community in most cases. However people trust you much more when they can contact you outside of the community. They then know you have nothing to hide and are not trying to scam them.
Second, use the features of the community. Post a blog, post comments on others blogs, pictures and profiles. Use the classifieds and bulletin feature many sites have to let people know what you are doing and why.
Start a group or join and post in others groups. Help others when you are able. Especially help in the groups designed for that purpose. You help as much by asking questions as you do by answering them. Often one person asking a question will help dozens who read the answers but just never asked the question.
Always be honest and always be polite. Never spam and never demean another person in these communities and you will become a person many wish to know and work with.

Wasup Douglas,

Hey buddy, I just woke up & it takes me awhile (+ lots of coffee) to get up to speed, so this *probably* won't be one of my maxed out comment "extravaganzas", but with me it's hard to say, ha ha - LOL! Yep, I read that comment at RFN right before I crashed. It made me LMAO 4 realz!

Anyway, this is a great post you made here man! You've hit every nail on the head & drove each of them in all the way with a quick, powerful blow so to speak. In other words, you've made it very clear what it takes to be a SUCCESSFUL social networker in a very concise manner. KUDOOS for that my friend.

Yeah, in fact, I actually learned somethin new. I haven't been leavin an external point of contact, such as a personal email, phone number, etc., cuz I was relyin on the internal methods provided by the various social networks I belong to.

But as you pointed out, this could be viewed as deceptive or like you're hidin somethin / behind somethin by others readin your profile. I hadn't thought about it that way until now, so thanks for helpin me to see that side of it too!

Finally, cuz I'm gettin close to maxin this 1 out after all (LOL), I totally agree with you about settin up your profile! If you don't do this, you might as well not even join the community. Cuz your profile is like the welcome mat at your front door.

If it's there & I can read it, then I feel like I was invited in by that person. In contrast, if it's not there, then I'm left wonderin if I'm really welcomed by the person or not! Does that make sense? It does to me right now but, as mentioned, I'm half asleep & might even be dreamin! OUCH, nope, I'm NOT dreamin & am definitely awake, cuz I just pinched myself to make sure & it hurt, ha ha...*grinz*...

Well, so much for not maxin this comment out - LOL! But I do need to wrap it up b4 I run completely out of room! So I'll end here. Have a great day Douglas! Oh yeah, RFN TOTALLY ROCKS! Thanks!

Best Wishes,

Michael Brock
