Unilevel plans are designed to build wide, not deep. Most uplines will keep promoting on their first level to max out their income, NOT under you. It's very common for big recruiters who promote unilevel plans to be 200, 300, or even 1,000+ wide. How does that help you? It doesn't.

Binary plans are a little different. Your upline will help you build one leg (a powerleg), but the catch is, you'll get NO help to build your other leg (your inside leg). And without building your other leg, guess how much you'll earn? Zero. Not a single dime. Even if you have 10,000 members in your powerleg!!

1 and 2 up pay plans can be ok for up front cash, but there's absolutely no incentive for your sponsor to place people under you, unless it's one of the people that will roll back up to them as commission. After that, you're on your own. Also, if you do manage to sponsor a big recruiter with one of these plans, they will 'break away' from you after sponsoring 1 or 2 members, and you'll never earn another dime from them after. Yes, you can still earn from the 1 or 2 roll ups they 'give away' to you, but odds are those people will do nothing, and those legs will die. 

Then there's the sheer numbers required with most matrix pay plans:

5 x 5 = takes 3905 downline members to fill

3 x 10 = takes 59049 downline members to fill

10 x 4 = takes 11110 downline members to fill 

These numbers above are totally unacheivable for most or all marketers.
