Review on Power Semiconductor

Power semiconductors are used in a wide range of applications, including power supplies, motor drives, renewable energy systems, electric vehicles, industrial machinery, and many more. They provide efficient and reliable switching capabilities, allowing for the control and conversion of electrical energy. There are several types of power semiconductors commonly used in these applications: Power Diodes: Power diodes are used for rectification, converting alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC) by allowing current flow in only one direction. Power Transistors: Power transistors, such as bipolar junction transistors (BJTs) and metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFETs), are used for amplification and switching of power signals. They can handle high power levels and switch on and off rapidly. Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistors (IGBTs): IGBTs are a type of power transistor that combines the high-speed switching capability of MOSFETs with the high voltage-handling capability of BJTs. They are commonly used in applications such as motor drives and inverters. Thyristors: Thyristors, including silicon-controlled rectifiers (SCRs) and triacs, are used for controlling large amounts of power in AC circuits. They can handle high currents and are often used in applications such as motor control and lighting control. Gate Turn-Off Thyristors (GTOs): GTOs are a type of thyristor that can be turned off by applying a gate signal. They are used in high-power applications such as high-voltage DC transmission and electric locomotives. Power semiconductors are designed to handle high power levels efficiently while minimizing losses and heat generation. They are crucial components in power electronics systems, enabling the efficient conversion, control, and management of electrical power in a wide range of applications.
