Review on Exemestane 25mg Tablet

Exemestane is a hormone therapy drug used to treat breast cancer in post-menopausal women. Breast cancer which is hormone receptor-positive requires the presence of estrogen to proliferate even more. Exemestane is a steroidal aromatase inhibitor. Aromatase enzyme converts androgens to estrogen. Exemestane also known as Aromasin binds to aromatase irreversibly and stops the conversion to estrogen. This as a result decreases the level of estrogen. In addition, it also stops the growth and spreading of cancer cells. Secondly, it only affects estrogen levels and has no effect on other enzymes. Exemestane is taken as an oral tablet every day with or without meal.

Exemestane tablets start showing the result immediately after intake. It lowers the estrogen level in the body after the first dose. After three to four days it decreases the estrogen level to 85 to 95 %.

Rashes, itching, and redness of skin are a few of the signs of an allergic response. Shortness of breath and wheezing is also one of the symptoms.
Exemestane can interact with other medications and supplements. Inform the doctor if the patient is taking carbamazepine or medicines that contain estrogen. These medications can interfere with the mechanism of Exemestane and increase the side effects.
It is advisable to inform the doctor about all past medical ailments, especially osteoporosis, and liver or kidney disorders.
Avoiding pregnancy and breastfeeding during the treatment and till one month after the last dose is advisable.
