Winter Wonderland Fun in Atlanta

For Holiday Cheer

It’s no secret: Santa spends his time off in Atlanta. Visit Santa at the Christmas Village in December and January. The kids can enjoy hot chocolate while the adults partake of their favorite holiday spirits and live music. Holiday worship services are held at the Ida Cason Callaway Memorial Chapel in addition to afternoon Christmas organ concerts on Sundays. The highlight of the season, however, is “Fantasy in Lights,” Callaway’s annual collection of holiday light displays. The entire park is decorated for the holidays making it one of the largest holiday light displays in Georgia.

For Nature Enthusiasts

Nature lovers will enjoy the tranquility of nature that winter brings to Atlanta. The turning of the leaves is particularly beautiful at an Atlanta garden destination, home to giant Japanese Maples and Holly Berry trees. The giant Poinsettia Tree at the Sibley Horticultural Center is a must-see for topiary enthusiasts. Every year, the poinsettias form a new design, a feat of horticultural engineering. The prized Sasanqua Camellias is a beautiful, fall-blooming evergreen indigenous to Japan but you can enjoy its pink flowers and green foliage this winter in Atlanta.

For Avid Artist

One Atlanta garden offers several outlets for artists looking to improve their craft. Photography workshops give students the opportunity to improve their skills in picturesque settings throughout the year. Instructor Jim Henderson is a seasoned photographer, helping students develop the necessary skills to shoot portraits, fashion, and nature in addition to fireworks and challenging night shots. They also offer basket weaving and needlework classes for the whole family.

Even during the cooler months, you can always find fun things to do in Atlanta.
