by Nayra Singh Education consultant

The term ‘chatbot’ isn’t new to us anymore. Unlike two years ago when companies still had the dilemma over whether they should or should not equip their websites with a chatbot, businesses have slowly gained an understanding that what is a chatbot and why it’s important for their business.

The chatbot is simply a small piece of software that you embed into your company’s website or social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram) to automatically assist clients and customers with their queries. In a summary, today, chatbots are somewhat taking the seats of human customer care executives when they are not available.

A while ago, there were hardly countable numbers of chatbot development companies were in operation. However, by looking at the fast pace of how businesses are taking this innovation seriously, experts suggest that the number of currently active chatbots will increase by 235% by the end of 2020.

Bots are usually developed with a sole aim to establish and maintain a successful conversation with humans. Chatbot should provide a healthy and engaging environment to users so the conversation can turn out to be fruitful.

By type, a chatbot can be characterized in majorly two parts: one that works on the defined rules and can’t cross the set rules and the other that comprehend user’s just by having a look at the language they type.

The first one is rule-based chatbots that don’t need a sheer know-how of programming to be developed. Some flowcharts and compelling lines are enough to develop them from the scratch. On the other hand, artificial intelligence-based chatbots need a solid knowledge of NLP (natural language process).

Most of the Facebook messenger bots follow the rule-based phenomena which allow users to select an option and show results accordingly. Chatbots are definitely the future of customer service sector and in the future, they will become the primary use-case of artificial intelligence.
