Why Metal Fabrication is Essential To Mold Metal?

by Ge-Shen Corporation Ge-Shen Corporation

A due process performed in various industries and sectors, metal fabrication is a process that helps to mold, cut, or shape metal into the desired object. It is a broad term encompassing all the techniques of cutting or shaping metals. Usually, products are assembled using components, but fabrication helps create products directly from the semi-finished or raw metal. The type of metal fabrication process depends on the type of material and its kind of result. Both custom and stock products require the fabrication of metal. Commonly used metals are mostly used for the process of fabrication. The fabrication process leads to the operation of finishing. It improves the object's exterior and looks without making any changes to the item's shape or size. Various types of metal fabrication procedures are performed. Some of them are:

 Folding Technique

It is a standard method used for pinching the metal and bending it into the desired shape. An instrument then manipulates the metal to turn at an angle. The workpiece is held between the force of a punch and a die.  It allows the metal to crease from the applied pressure. This procedure is usually used for metal sheets. Various tools are used for folding the metal. A folder machine or hammer can help to fold the metal sheet in the desired shape and size. The metal is placed on the folder machine's flat surface while a clamping bar holds the workpiece in place. The front panel is then lifted upwards, which forces the metal to extend over and bend.

 Casting Method

Casting is a prevalent method for fabricating a metal in the desired shape. A contract manufacturer Malaysia shall melt the metal and pour the molten metal into a mold and give the metal the desired shape and size. It is usually a significant metal fabrication choice when the pieces must be manufactured with identical components. It is a suitable solution for the mass production of metal objects. There are various forms of casting, such as permanent casting, die casting, and sand casting. All these forms of casting differ on how easily the mold is removed from the metal object.

 Drawing Technique

In this type of technique, the metal is pulled into a tapered die, and tensile force is used to shape the metal. This procedure is performed at room temperature and is called cold drawing. The die used helps to stretch the metal into a thinner shape. This process is also known as deep drawing when the drawing is done at a greater depth than the object's radius.

 Cutting Method

The contract manufacturer Malaysia uses this type of method more religiously for most fabrication tasks. The metal piece is split into smaller pieces. Usually, most companies without state-of-the-art technologies resort to the technique of cutting the metal piece. There are various forms of cutting, such as water jet and plasma-arc cutting. Even laser cutting is a popular choice.

Extrusion Technique

In this type of extrusion method, the metal piece is forced through a closed or an open die. The diameter of the work piece is often reduced to the cross-section of the die. The cross-section of the die has different shapes and sizes and creates another type of product. This process is performed at room temperature, which increases the material's strength and makes it more durable than the original.
