Why Is Gold So Valuable?

by Kevin Smith Author

You may have gold jewelry lying around or in storage that you could do without. Gold is valuable and if you find the right place to sell gold in Atlanta, you can fetch a great price for it. Gold jewelry is particularly common, at least when it comes to real jewelry made of real precious metals, not costume jewelry.

You may wonder just why your gold jewelry is worth so much. If you take your precious gold in for an appraisal of its cash value, you might even regret holding onto it for so long, especially if you've been looking for extra money.

These are the most important reasons why gold is so valuable, historically, today, and into the future.

It's Rare

Gold is a rare metal, a substance that is difficult to find and even harder to mine. Because of its rarity, it has more value than common substances. For instance, iron and aluminum are very common metals, which is one reason why they're used for construction and other large-scale projects, and why no one cares to wear iron or aluminum jewelry, at least not unless it's dyed to resemble gold.

It's Hard to Produce

Gold is an unusual soft substance, too. Pure gold wouldn't withstand human use for very long, and it wouldn't keep a beautiful shape. Therefore, gold has to be mixed into alloys with other metals that stabilize it. Then, it can be produced into beautiful shapes, like bands or chains. Typically, a piece of jewelry will look more impressive if you can see just how difficult it was to produce, and how it must be hand-designed into a beautiful form.

It's Attractive

No one can deny the natural beauty of gold. It's bright, reflective, and has a spectacular coloring that's unlike anything else on earth. There isn't a single person alive who wouldn't look better with a piece of genuine gold jewelry in their outfit. In fact, this beauty has inspired people to even apply real gold to ceilings, furniture, and other decor.

It Lasts

As a natural metal, gold is a long-lasting substance. While gold jewelry may form small dents, well-maintained jewelry will retain its original luster and beauty for a long time. So if you want to sell gold in Atlanta, no matter how old it may be, it can still recover an impressive beauty that makes it well worth a jeweler or investor's money.
