Who Needs Eyelid Surgery?

by Dr Ankit Gupta Plastic Surgeon - Panache Aesthetics

Blepharoplasty, which is commonly known as Eyelid Surgery is a specialised Plastic Surgery procedure, which can be done on upper eyelids or lower eyelids, and sometimes on all four eyelids depending on the indications.

Who Needs Eyelid Surgery?

Have you ever looked into the mirror and wondered why do you always look tired? Why are you looking more aged than what you are? Why do your eyes always look tired and swollen?

As we age, the muscles in our eyelids tend to lose their strength, and the fat layer which was supposed to be behind the muscle bulges forward. It is this fat, which gives rise to under eye bags, or puffy looking upper eye lids. Also, the skin of eyelids, is very thin, and loses its elasticity over time. This leads to a lot of loose skin over eyelids, which hangs over, and causes droopy looking eyelids. Sometimes, all these conditions happen in young people as well, due to genetic causes. Blepharoplasty or Eyelid Surgery helps to correct all these conditions.

·        Under Eye bags

·        Droopy Eyelids

·        Puffy eyes

·        Loose skin in eyelids

One specialised form of Eyelid Surgery is Asian Blepharoplasty. This is done in people of Asian descent, who genetically do not have the eyelid fold. In them, an eyelid fold is made surgically, to give the appearance of Double Eyelids.

How is the Recovery after Eyelid Surgery?

Eyelid Surgery is a very safe surgery, done under Local Anaesthesia. The procedure is done within 1-2 hrs, and patient can go home on the same day. There will be some swelling and bruising, which usually subsides within 7-10 days, and is greatly reduced by cold application.

Will there be scars after Eyelid Surgery?

The incision for lower eyelid surgery is placed inside the lower eyelid, and hence is not visible from the outside. For upper eyelid surgery, Dr Ankit Gupta will carefully mark the eyelid crease, and the incision will be placed exactly on the crease. Such that, after healing, the scar is hardly visible.

When can I see the results of Eyelid Surgery?

You can appreciate the results within a week to 10 days, once the swelling subsides. However, the results keep improving as the healing occurs, till around 3 months.
