When can I start exercising after Liposuction Surgery?

by Dr Ankit Gupta Plastic Surgeon - Panache Aesthetics

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that involves removing excess fat from the body using a suction technique. It is typically performed on the abdomen, thighs, buttocks, and arms, and is often used to contour these areas and improve their shape. The procedure can be performed under either Local or general anaesthesia, depending on the area and the amount of fat that needs to be removed. The recovery time varies depending on the amount of fat that was removed and the individual's overall health.

Post-Surgical Care for Liposuction

The post-surgical care for liposuction typically involves wearing a compression garment over the treated area to help reduce swelling and support the skin as it adjusts to its new shape. It is also important to avoid strenuous activities and heavy lifting for several weeks to allow the body time to heal. Patients should follow their doctor's instructions for caring for the surgical site and managing any pain or discomfort. This may include taking pain medication as prescribed, applying ice packs to the treated area, and keeping the area clean and dry. It is also important to attend any follow-up appointments with the doctor to ensure that the healing process is progressing as expected.

Exercise Routine Post Liposuction

It is typically recommended to avoid strenuous activities and heavy lifting for several weeks after liposuction to allow the body time to heal. The exact amount of time will vary depending on the individual and the extent of the procedure. It is important to follow your doctor's instructions and to wait until you have been cleared by your doctor before returning to your normal exercise routine.

You can start walking from the same day, and it is beneficial that you walk daily. But you should avoid running and jogging, and other high intensity workouts. For more strenuous exercises, it is usually recommended to wait for about four to six weeks after the procedure. However, that also depends on the area. For example, if you have only undergone Liposuction for double chin, you can resume your activity sooner. You can resume mild exercises after 1-2 weeks itself. It is also important to start slowly and gradually increase your activity level to avoid putting too much strain on your body.
