Whether to Buy Honda Odyssey or Honda Pilot?

by Hemaln Berry New and Used Honda Dealer Serving F

So you have planned to trade in your old vehicle and buy a new and bigger vehicle to haul your family around? Well, that’s great. But the problem is that you can’t decide whether to choose a minivan or a sports utility vehicle (SUV) from the auto service and dealership in Dallas.  Choosing between these automobile styles is going to be a tough task, especially when they have shared several common features. Both minivan and SUV provide adequate cargo space, seating capacity and upright seating positions. If we look for the infotainment, then most SUVs and minivans have advanced sound systems and technologies. How to make a choice then? Let us consider the SUV and minivan models of a reputed automaker. For now, we will take Honda Odyssey minivan and Honda pilot in Texas as examples.

As a first step, we need to examine the basic features of both the Honda vehicles. Both Honda Pilot and 2015 Honda Odyssey in TX comes with a standard 3.5 liter V6 engine. While Odyssey is available only with front-wheel drive, Pilot also comes in all-wheel drive options. Despite the similar engine configurations, they differ in performance. Odyssey generates 248 horsepower and 250 ft-lbs of torque. However, the horsepower and torque of Honda SUV is a bit higher as it generates 280 horsepower and 262 ft-lbs of torque.  With its base model towing up to 3,500 pounds Odyssey tops in towing capacity as Pilot's towing capacity is 2,000 pounds. But buyers may consider equipping Pilot with four-wheel drive for availing 4,500 pounds towing capacity. The fuel economy of minivan is estimated as 19 city / 28 highway mpg, whereas Honda Pilot offers a city fuel economy of 18 city/ 25 highway mpg.

When it comes to making a choice, it is important to consider and prioritize your needs. How much space you need in the family vehicle? Odyssey grabs the top position with its 172.6 cubic feet passenger volume compared to the 152.9 cubic feet passenger volume of Pilot. But the Pilot’s interior is designed in a versatile manner with a multitude of storage bins and cup holders. Moreover, it has a removable floor panel behind the third row which contributes to bigger cargo space. What is your expected fuel economy range? Honda Odyssey and Pilot have only slight differences when it is about fuel efficiency. Though, Pilot tips Odyssey in terms of horsepower and fuel economy.  Basic features like cruise control, Bluetooth connectivity, rear view camera and eight inch information display are available in both the Honda vehicles.  Asking yourself a lot of questions and detailed research is the only way to take an informed decision.
