When homeowners are looking for a wood that excels when it comes to the durability they will first want to turn to the wood's rating on the Janka Scale. The Janka Scale is used to measure the hardness of both domestic and exotic kinds of wood. The scale rates wood according to the amount of force that is needed to sink a 0.444" steel ball into the wood for at least half its diameter. Needless to say, those woods which score highly on the Janka Scale are particularly sought after when it comes to industrial and domestic use for the manufacture of furniture or flooring (for instance). The chances are that is you have domestic furnishings that score highly on this scale you will have made an investment that will last for generations.
